Local favorite Kate Redgate "Americana/Alt-Country chanteuse" performs with her band Friday Jan 15th at FINCH coffeehouse, 26 Pleasant Street, Newburyport, MA at 8 p.m. Acoustic driven blues, folk, country, and rock and roll. She has shared the stage with numerous folk luminaries including Richie Havens, John Gorka, Lynn Miles, and many others... Nominated for several national songwriting awards including the legendary Kerrville NewFolk. A favorite and well-loved performer based in the north shore/seacoast MA/NH area. Her 2009 CD, Nothing Tragic, has met with extremely positive reviews that throw around phrases like:
Kate Redgate has never let a life less than easy stand in the way of her creative process; indeed her choices and the results have fueled her songwriting for the better part of 20 years. Redgate was adopted from Scott Air Force Base in 1970, and spent much of the first 16 years of her life on a farm in Southern Illinois. A stint in Foster Care at the age of 16 before several years of street life ensued where Redgate learned the craft of music hanging out in clubs and getting to know musicians. Children and single motherhood kept Redgate from performing a great deal for a number of years, although she began to reconnect with performing in 2001 following the recording of a self-titled demo CD.
In 2005, Redgate shattered her arm in an accident and faced the possibility she might never play again. Things worked out for the better, and Redgate comes back in 2009 with Nothing Tragic; a reflection on all that's come before and a personal attitude that drives Redgate on toward the future. Kate Redgate has walked a hard road, survived, and has come back to a place where dreams are more than possible; they're in reach.
Nothing Tragic lets go of the past and embraces a future full of hope and possibilities; told from the well of wisdom the hard road has won her. Musically the album is strong with great musicianship and a sense of melody that's pleasing to the ear. It's as a story-teller that Redgate excels, wrapping listeners in her true-to-life tales and not letting go until the last notes fade from hearing. Make sure Nothing Tragic finds its way into your collection.
Kim Davidson's entertainment career is as varied as it is long. Over the past 20 years her performance history has included musical theater and dance, film and television work, a cruise ship revue, a variety of cabaret and dinner theater acts, two acoustic duos, one wedding band, and two country bands performing covers before she finally set out on her own to fulfill the dream of performing her own music.
Additionally, as the Managing Director of The Oasis Coffeehouse in Waltham, MA from September 2007 to May 2009, she had the pleasure of working behind the scenes with many of the area's brightest talents. However, the grueling pace of running a fledgling coffeehouse took her away from her own music career—a career she desperately missed. Having left The Oasis this past May, she is thrilled to be back to performing, and to promoting her upcoming full-length debut CD: "Free Therapy."
As a writer Kim has a penchant for melancholy, love-lorn fare. She balances moody, emotional lyrics against often upbeat melody lines, while her voice lends itself with a range and scope of sound few possess, running the gamut from fragile to sultry to bring-the-house-down and every nuance in between.
Recent previous venues include Plum Island Coffee Roasters (Amesbury, MA), Café Ziba (Acton, MA); The Center for Arts in Natick, MA; The Nameless Coffeehouse (Cambridge, MA); Johnny D's (Somerville, MA—as part of Chick Singer Night); Perks Coffeehouse (Norwood, MA), and of course The Oasis Coffeehouse (Waltham, MA) to name a few. She has also been a winner of the Lizard Lounge (Cambridge, MA) Open Mic Challenge.
Kim is a graduate of AMDA, New York, and current student of Andover Educators, studying to teach the course “What Every Musician Needs To Know About The Body.” Her debut album, "Free Therapy" is set for release in 2010.

"If you haven't heard Redgate, then, take it from me...; start listening now. She's unreal. If you can picture a singer/songwriter that's as much Melissa Etheridge (in the rockin' vocals sense) as she is J.J. Cale (in the rockin' writing sense), then you're beginning to understand."
"The ability for an artist to come in and express themselves anyway they want to is a great asset to the genre and Kate Redgate has done just that with her new album Nothing Tragic. Her combination of great lyrics with great melodies that seem to know the exact moment to fuse in pop is attractive to anyone listening."
"a songwriter with intelligence, attitude and muscle...brimming with heart and soul".
